Monthly update for April 2019

April 2019

Hi there!

This is the 19th full month that I worked on Listen Notes full-time. No any visible improvements for the website. It's mostly backend / infrastructure work.

You can read past issues of this monthly update.

Product updates

1. Tons of infrastructure improvements: upgraded to Django 2.1, fixed some edge cases in search index, tuned database performance, improved monitoring & alerting, cleaned up ansible scripts...

2. Follow-up developments for Listen API v2, which was initially launched in March: internal dashboard, user notifications, performance & stability improvement...

3. Added a new API endpoint to submit podcasts to Listen Notes. Podcast hosting services can use this endpoint to allow their users to directly submit new shows to Listen Notes.

4. Some internal tools to help improve the data quality.

Company updates

I will work on some website improvements (e.g., Listen Later playlists, curated podcasts...) in May.

Also I need to spend some time thinking how to get more API users. If you know anyone who wants to build podcast-related services / apps, please tell them Listen API :)

Blog posts

  • How to submit a new podcast to Listen Notes database

Some numbers

  • Database: 665k podcasts; 44.1 million episodes

  • Website: 1.16M page views & 491k unique visitors in April
